A horse's height is measured in
hands.  1 hand = 4 inches.
 
Horses belong to the equus family
which comes from the Greek word
meaning "quickness".
 
A pony is not a baby horse, but
rather a full grown small horse.

The hoof of a horse is like a
fingernail; it keeps on growing and
needs to be clipped.

"Old Billy," was the oldest recorded
horse who lived to be 62 years.

"Little Pumpkin," is the smallest
pony in history, it stood 14 inches
and weighed 20 lbs.

Any kind of mark, which appears on
the forehead of a horse, is called a
star, irrespective of whether it
resembles one!

One of the few breeds of horses that
live in North America are called
Mustangs.

English pleasure is a generic term for a number of
different English riding classes seen at horse
shows in the United States, where the horse is
ridden in either hunt seat or saddle seat tack.

Equitation in an English riding event that judges
correct riding and proper body carriage of horse
and rider.
Forages, such as hay, make
up the biggest portion of the
equine diet by weight.
